The extraordinary benefits of coffee for the skin of the face and body

Today, Tuesday 1 October 2019, is World Coffee Day, and we at OnlyBelleza take the opportunity to celebrate this food, telling about its extraordinary beauty potential.

Here's everything you should know: the coffee, skin benefits, face and hair, and how to exploit its properties for your beauty.

Coffee for face and body: a hymn to youth and more

Coffee, thanks to its antioxidants - phenols - helps the skin to fight free radicals, which can cause skin damage and speed up the aging process.

The benefits of this special food on the skin are obtained above all through local application. This is why moisturizers or scrubs are prepared, for example with coffee grounds, to be applied directly to the area to be treated.

All the benefits of coffee

Caffeine is known in the world of cosmetics not only for its own antiaging properties, but also for its power moisturizing and exfoliating.

Caffeine also helps firm and cleanse the skin. Here are some beauty properties of coffee that are worth knowing.

Reduces cellulite

The components contained in coffee can help reduce cellulite. Caffeine is believed to reduce the orange peel on the skin, dilating blood vessels and improving overall venous flow.

Cellulite can therefore be treated with a do-it-yourself remedy, such as a coffee scrub which can also allow the exfoliation of dead cells. The scrub also smoothes the skin and gives a uniform appearance to the epidermis.

Here's how to prepare a DIY anti-cellulite treatment with coffee grounds.

Caffeine also shrinks the skin, making it firmer and tighter.

Anti-aging benefits

Applying coffee directly to the skin can help reduce the appearance of sun spots, redness, and fine wrinkles.

According to a study - published in the Int J Dermatol - there is a direct correlation between drinking coffee and a decrease in the effects of photoaging.

It has calming effects and reduces irritation

Coffee is a key element of some cosmetics that are used for acne-scarred and inflamed skin, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties and antibacterial.

The regular use of coffee products, therefore, is very likely to help fight this type of problem.

Eliminate dark circles

Caffeine is well tolerated by the skin and for this reason it can also be found in specific textures for delicate areas such as that of the eye contour.

Coffee is able to counteract the accumulation of water and, therefore, a decrease swelling stimulating the microcirculation. If you want, you can make a DIY eye cream. This is the recipe and the procedure:

  • In a bowl combine 8 grams of coffee beans and 8 grams of olive oil.
  • Add a couple of drops of water to make a cream.

Apply the resulting cream by gently caressing the eye contour without rubbing. Of coffee, the benefits for the skin don't end there.

Gives shine to the hair

Coffee, having a lower pH than water, flattens the cuticles giving shine to the hair. Additionally, caffeine helps keep the scalp in balance.

Coffee can also help exfoliate the scalp, stimulate hair follicles and thus also promote hair growth. To get these results, you can try rinsing your hair with cold coffee or rubbing the coffee grounds into your scalp.

What if we drink it? It's good too

Coffee, in particular the caffeine it contains, has positive effects on our beauty even from within.

Drinking this drink is good for you because it has modest diuretic effects, therefore, it is a valid ally against, for example, the sensation of swollen legs and improves metabolism.
